Additional plant capacity will help meet increasing demand for
animal protein industry in South Asia
GUMMIDIPUNDI, Tamil Nadu:
Kemin Industries, a global ingredient manufacturer focused on improving the quality of life for more than half the world’s population, announced the expansion of its manufacturing facility in India, located in the SIPCOT industrial estate. This will allow Kemin to better serve the increasing demand for specialized nutritional ingredients that address the region’s rapidly growing animal protein industry.
“South Asia plays a very important role in the global animal feed market, producing more than 35 million tons of compound feed. Due to rapid economic growth in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal, the overall demand for animal protein is increasing in the region,” said Dr. Chris Nelson, President and CEO, Kemin Industries. “For this reason, we decided to invest and grow the capacity at our existing Gummidipundi plant near Chennai. Kemin is always seeking opportunities to better meet our customers’ needs regionally and provide high-quality products and solutions. This expansion is yet another example of how Kemin puts customers first.”
The new state-of-the-art facility is one of the most sophisticated plants in the global Kemin portfolio to produce metal propionate trace minerals. The new facility’s “Integrated Organic Mineral Production System” ensures highly efficacious organic trace minerals in different combinations for animals. The production facility for liquid products is also significantly improved in the new facility.The facility has also received new certifications and endorsements to better serve Kemin Food Technologies customers in Asia.

The additional capacity in Gummidipundi will equip us to meet the ever-increasing demand for Kemin’s high-quality feed ingredients. As we begin out putting new products at this facility, we aim to work closely with our customers for the collective purpose of improving animal production efficiency.”
The new food and manufacturing certifications for the Kemin Food Technologies – Asia business unit include the following:
- ISO 9001:2015 – Development, manufacture, marketing and supply of feed and food additives.
- ISO 22000:2005 – Manufacturing (processing, blending and packaging) of animal feed additives and food additives packed in bulk and retail packs.
- FSSC 22000: 2005 – Manufacturing (processing, blending and packaging) of animal feed additives and food additives packed in bulk and retail packs.
- HALAL India and KOSHER Certificate – Manufacturing endorsement.
- Export Inspection Council Approval – To process and pack food additives for export to NON-EU countries.
With regional headquarters in Chennai, India, Kemin has been serving the animal protein industry in South Asia since 1998. The current headquarters includes a full-fledged manufacturing facility, quality control labs, research and development farms and a small pellet feed mill.

Purpose of Dedication:
Kemin Industries South Asia Pvt Ltd. announces the dedication of its unit II facility at Gummidipundi, Chennai, India. The new facility will enhance Kemin’s ability to serve its customers and their growing market demands with inspired molecular solutions. The first unit was dedicated in 2000 by Professor MS Swaminathan and subsequently upgraded in 2011. The adoption of new technologies in unit II facilitates Kemin to produce Safe; Healthy and Efficient products to cater into Poultry, Dairy, Aqua and human food and textile industries. Kemin has certified with worlds best quality certifications starting from ISO 9005; ISO 22000 to FAMIQS, Halal and Kosher. The new unit will help us to serve greater number of customers with less supply lead time in a most efficient manner in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh markets.
Integrated Organic Mineral Production (IOMPS):
Kemin’s new plant comes with a unique, patented “Integrated Organic Mineral Production System (IOMPS)”, which will provide high quality organic minerals with cost efficient animal production. The new IOMPS is the first of its kind in the world to produce propionate organic minerals. The IOMPS is the patented organic mineral production technology of Kemin which provides better Mineral Stability; Better Bio availability and opportunity for customization.

We are looking forward to invest in new fermentation facility and new encapsulation facility to produce high tech coated products. How many employment opportunities we are creating with the help of new plant?
Ans: We will be adding 50+ manpower over the coming years to reach a greater number of customers in south Asian market and looking for more addition in future

India is the fastest-growing economy in the world and market is growing at much higher pace compared to other developed markets. The Broiler industry is growing at 7 – 8% and layer and Ruminant growing at 5- 6%.
What is Kemin’s view on sustainability?
Our new plant comes with 30% landscaping which is the best in the industry. We are moving towards essential and natural ingredients and by 2025, 50% of Kemin products will be based on plant ingredients. Kemin is investing huge on that and our goal is – Healthy people; Healthy planet and Healthy business.
What is the direction Kemin will go in future– on Antibiotic, organic and natural?
Last question answer will go fine with this. Kemin has come out with new HEALTH solution and working with our customers to provide Antibiotic alternative solutions (ABA). It serves better Microbiome, intestinal integrity and Immunity.
How many countries are you planning to export your products?
At present we are exporting to Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. We are also planning to export into other Asian countries.
