16th POULTRY KNOWLEDGE DAY: A Focused Agenda on Innovation, Sustainability, and Growth

The 16th Poultry Knowledge Day held at the Poultry India Expo 2024 was a pivotal event that gathered key industry leaders, scientists, policymakers, and other stakeholders to deliberate on the future of the Indian poultry sector. This year’s theme, “Shaping the Future of the Indian Poultry Sector,” emphasized innovation, sustainability, and growth strategies aimed at addressing the industry’s challenges while fostering its long-term development. The event took place in Hyderabad on November 26 and set the stage for valuable discussions and actionable insights to help steer the sector toward greater efficiency and sustainability.

The event kicked off with a warm welcome address by Mr.Anil Dhumal, who extended a special greeting to distinguished guests, including Hon. Mr.Sabyasachi Ghosh, Special Chief Secretary of Telangana; Joint Secretary; , Mr.Guna Chandra Bista ( Swami ) President of the Nepal Poultry Federation; and several notable speakers from the industry. Poultry India, founded in 2007, has been a leading platform for showcasing advanced technologies and fostering collaboration within the poultry sector. Over the years, it has become a global hub for empowering poultry farmers by connecting them to new developments in equipment, feed, vaccines, and veterinary care, thus positioning India as a key player in the global poultry industry.

Mr. Dhumal also highlighted India’s global contributions in various poultry-related fields, pointing out how Indian professionals, such as veterinarians, have made significant strides abroad. The growing influence of Indian expertise reflects the country’s growing potential in the sector.

Expert sessions, led by Dr. PK Shukla, offer actionable insights, complemented by the unveiling of a digitized exhibition for greater efficiency. Looking ahead, initiatives by the Executive Advisory Committee and the Young Entrepreneurs Forum aim to establish India as a global poultry leader by 2047.

The day commenced with a keynote address from Mr. Sabyasachi Ghosh, Special Chief Secretary to the Telangana Government’s Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development & Fisheries Department. Mr. Ghosh spoke about the government’s initiatives to support the poultry industry, underscoring the importance of innovation and policy support to further strengthen the sector.

Dr. Chin How Cheong, a technical consultant based in Singapore, presented strategies to mitigate the risks of avian influenza, which remains a persistent challenge for poultry farmers around the world. He emphasized the importance of biosecurity measures and surveillance in preventing outbreaks.

Dr. M. R. Reddy, Principal Scientist at ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, presented on the increasing prevalence of IBH in broilers. He offered insights into early diagnosis and preventative measures to reduce economic losses associated with this disease.

Mr. Bahadur Ali, Managing Director of IB Group and Chairman of the All India Poultry Breeders Association (AIPB), spoke on the concept of broiler integration and its significance for the poultry industry. Mr. Ali emphasized that integration is key to ensuring sustainability, cost efficiency, and quality control throughout the poultry production process. His vision revolves around creating a seamless value chain that connects various stages of poultry farming—from breeding to processing—into a unified, efficient system.

Mr. Ali also shared his vision for the future of India’s poultry sector, which includes:

  1. Sustainable Growth: Building integrated models that ensure self-reliance and efficiency across the poultry value chain.
  2. Empowering Farmers: Providing rural farmers with training and resources to improve productivity and livelihood.
  3. Innovation and Technology: Leveraging advanced technologies to enhance feed quality, animal health, and overall production efficiency.
  4. Nutrition for All: Ensuring the availability of affordable, high-quality protein for the masses.
  5. Global Competitiveness: Positioning Indian poultry on the international stage with world-class standards.

According to Mr. Bahadur Ali, Poultry Connect represents the idea of fostering strong, interconnected relationships across the entire poultry value chain. It involves collaboration between different stakeholders, including farmers, suppliers, processors, and consumers, to create a more efficient and sustainable poultry industry.

For him, Poultry Connect is about building networks that enable the sharing of knowledge, resources, and best practices. This connection helps to drive innovation, improve productivity, and ensure consistent quality throughout the industry

The potential of poultry exports was explored in detail by Mr. Nivesh Saravanakumar, CEO of Rasi Foods & Feeds, and Mr. Satish Babu, Chairman of Ovobel Foods Limited. The focus was on the growing demand for whole-egg exports, as well as opportunities in egg powder and liquid egg markets. Both speakers emphasized the need to align India’s production standards with international benchmarks to capitalize on these export opportunities.

The evening saw the official Poultry India Expo Inaugural Ceremony, where dignitaries and industry leaders marked the start of the highly anticipated trade expo.

Mr. Uday Singh Bayas, President of IPEMA, took the stage with great pride and enthusiasm, addressing the gathering at the Poultry India Expo’s Knowledge Day, a remarkable initiative created by ESE. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to everyone present, acknowledging their role in making Poultry India a success.

With a cheerful tone, he encouraged the crowd, saying, “A big applause for Poultry India!” He shared a light-hearted moment about his recent trip, mentioning how the energy he received from his senior president had inspired him to bring more energy to the event.

Acknowledging the importance of the event, he thanked all the respected guests, including Mr. OP Chaudhary, who had travelled all the way from Delhi to share his valuable time, as well as other senior members and industry leaders who had helped elevate Poultry India to its current stature. Mr. Bayas proudly announced that Poultry India was breaking new records this year, with plans to reach even greater heights in the future.

He briefly highlighted the progress made by Poultry India, mentioning successful international ventures such as technical seminars in India, and international shows in Nepal and Russia. “We are also expanding to Bangladesh, with more countries to come,” he added, emphasizing the ongoing growth of the poultry industry.

In closing, Mr. Bayas expressed his gratitude for the support and love from the entire Poultry India community and called upon his senior colleagues to join him on stage for the inauguration of the 16th edition of Poultry India. He invited the senior presidents and key figures, including Mr. Anil G., Mr. Harish Garh, Mr. Chakrarao, and Mr. Srikanth, to join him, reminding everyone of the strong legacy of Poultry India. He reflected on the words of his colleague, Mr. Bahadur Ji, who had emphasized the importance of carrying the legacy forward.

“With this team, I am confident that Poultry India will continue to thrive and make us all proud,” Mr. Bayas concluded, before handing over the stage to President Anil for the formal inauguration. The energy in the room was palpable as the team gathered, ready to take Poultry India to even greater success.

The day culminated with the Legends Award Ceremony, which honoured individuals for their extraordinary contributions to the poultry industry. This was followed by a Networking Gala Dinner, providing a platform for stakeholders to engage in meaningful conversations and foster new business relationships.

The 16th Poultry Knowledge Day concluded on a high note, successfully bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders from across the poultry industry to collaborate, innovate, and strategize for a sustainable and prosperous future. By addressing critical challenges, presenting actionable solutions, and exploring opportunities for growth, the event reaffirmed its role in shaping the trajectory of the Indian poultry sector.

Looking ahead, the initiatives introduced during the event, including the digitized exhibition and efforts by the Executive Advisory Committee and Young Entrepreneurs Forum, are poised to position India as a global leader in the poultry industry by 2047.
